Terms of Service

These terms set out how you may use Lento, the children's reading service, and the rights and responsibilities of Lento and its users.

This is a translation for convenience. If it differs from the Korean version, the Korean version applies.

1. Definitions

  • "Service": everything Lento provides at lento.kids and as an installable web app, including reading and listening to stories, AI after-reading conversations, story creation, parent letters and notifications
  • "Parent": the adult (parent or legal guardian) who creates a Lento account
  • "Child": a child the parent adds to their account
  • "Your content": conversations, stories, photos, notes and anything else children and parents enter or upload

2. These terms and changes

These terms apply once posted in the service. We may change them within the limits of the law, giving notice in the service 7 days before changes take effect (30 days for changes that disadvantage you). If you don't agree to the new terms, you can stop using Lento and close your account.

3. Accounts

  • Only adult parents or guardians can sign up. Children use Lento only within a parent's account.
  • Provide accurate information and keep your password and parent PIN safe.
  • Tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
  • We may refuse or limit accounts that use someone else's identity or seriously disrupt the service.

4. What Lento provides

  • Stories in Korean and English, to read or listen to
  • AI after-reading conversations and making stories together with AI
  • Parent letters based on your child's reading and conversations
  • Alerts to parents when a worrying sign appears in a child's conversation
  • Other features we add over time

Lento is currently free. If we introduce paid plans, they will follow the payment and refund sections below.

6. Withdrawal and refunds

  • You can withdraw from a purchase within 7 days of paying (or of when the service became available to you, if later) and receive a full refund.
  • However, once you have actually started using paid digital content, withdrawal may be limited as permitted by Korea's Act on Consumer Protection in Electronic Commerce. In that case we'll make this clear before you pay and offer a way to try first, such as a free trial or preview. If we haven't done so, we won't limit your withdrawal.
  • If you cancel after 7 days, you won't be charged for the next period. Refunds for a period you've already paid for follow the law and the terms shown on the payment screen.
  • If you couldn't properly use a paid service because of our fault or an outage, we'll refund the unused period or extend your access.
  • Payments made in error or charged twice will be refunded as soon as we confirm them.
  • Once a withdrawal or refund is confirmed, we'll start the refund to your original payment method within 3 business days. Depending on your card issuer or payment provider, it may take longer to appear.
  • Send refund requests to lento.support@gmail.com.

7. Children's use and the parent's role

  • Parents look after how their child uses Lento and accept these terms and the Privacy Policy on the child's behalf.
  • What your child says while reading may be quoted word for word in parent letters. Anything your child calls a secret is not shown in letters.
  • If your child seems to be in serious distress or danger, we will tell you even if it was called a secret. These alerts can't be turned off.

8. About AI features

  • Conversations, story creation, parent letters and the classification of worrying signs include AI-generated results, which can be wrong or awkward.
  • We use safeguards to keep content suitable for children, but no safeguard is perfect. Please tell us if you see anything inappropriate.
  • Lento's letters and alerts are not medical or psychological advice or diagnosis. If you're worried about your child's safety, contact a qualified professional.
  • Alerts about worrying signs do not guarantee that every risk will be detected.

9. Rights in content

  • Stories, illustrations, narration and design provided by Lento belong to Lento or their original creators. Beyond personal use, you may not copy, distribute, sell or publicly post them.
  • Stories your family makes and photos you upload belong to you.
  • We use your content only as needed to run the service (storing it, showing it, creating letters and PDFs). We'll ask separately before using it for anything else, such as promotion.
  • Only upload photos that don't infringe anyone else's rights.

10. What you must not do

  • Use someone else's account or information
  • Copy or distribute Lento content without permission, or scrape it with automated tools
  • Bypass security or place excessive load on our systems
  • Try to use AI features to produce harmful or illegal content for children
  • Spread share links beyond the people they were meant for

11. Changes and interruptions

We may change, add or retire features to improve Lento. The service may pause for maintenance, outages or issues with our providers; where we can foresee this, we'll tell you in advance. If we ever shut Lento down, we'll give 30 days' notice and help you save your child's stories as PDFs.

12. Closing your account and deletion

  • You can close your account at any time in Parent Zone › Settings › Close account. You can cancel for 15 days; after that we send a farewell report for each child and delete all data.
  • To delete one child, go to Parent Zone › Manage children. You can undo for 15 days; after that we send you a farewell report and delete the data.
  • Stories moved to the trash are permanently deleted after 15 days.
  • If a parent breaches section 10 and harms the service or other users, we may limit use or end the agreement after explaining why.

13. Liability

We work to provide Lento reliably and in line with the law and these terms. If you suffer loss due to our intent or negligence, we'll compensate you as required by law. We are not liable for loss caused by natural disasters, your own fault, or outside factors beyond our control, unless we acted intentionally or negligently.

14. Resolving disputes

If something goes wrong, please email lento.support@gmail.com first and we'll do our best to resolve it. These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Korea, and any lawsuit will be handled by the competent court under the Korean Civil Procedure Act.
